Trafford man wins $100,000 on 'Millionaire'
Brian Kaminski says he learned his ABCs from the "Wheel of Fortune" and other game shows he enjoyed as child.
A lifetime of trivia games and game-show watching paid off for Kaminski, 23, of Trafford. He won $100,000 as a contestant on Monday's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" show broadcast on NBC. Kaminski answered 11 questions correctly before bowing out on the $250,000 question and opting to keep a sure $100,000.
His appearance began Friday when he correctly answered five questions to get to the $2,000 mark. The show airs at 1 p.m. Mondays through Fridays with Meredith Vieira as host.
Kaminski's $250,000 question was: "With a population of about 4,500, what Alaska town is the northernmost community in the United States? A) Deadhorse, B) Coldfoot, C) Barrow, D) Nome."
Out of lifelines and unsure of the answer, Kaminski decided to not take a guess and walked away with the guaranteed $100,000. The correct answer was Barrow.
Kaminski taped the show in December, but signed a confidentiality agreement not to divulge his results until the show aired. He'll receive his check within 30 days. Kaminski, a freelance sportswriter for the Valley News Dispatch, says he plans to invest his winnings and may consider using some for a down payment on a starter home. He also donated 10 percent of his winnings to a scholarship fund for Penn-Trafford wrestlers.
Kaminski is a 2005 graduate of Waynesburg College and a 2003 graduate of Penn-Trafford High School.
